Liuhe Fm
Type Locality and Naming
Its type section is located at the south slop of Yanglingshan (E118°53′, N32°17′), Liuhe County, about 20 km north of Nanjing City, Jiangsu Province. It was named by Bi et al. (1977).
Synonym: Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources of Jiangsu Province (BGMRJ(Jiangsu)P) (1997) assigned the Liuhe Fm as a synonym of the Yuhuati Fm and correlated the former to the lower part of the latter.
Lithology and Thickness
The Liuhe Fm is divided into two members. Lower member consists of grey and greyish-white gravels. Upper member is characterized by greyish-yellow and brownish-yellow sandstones, Both members have positive rhythm that graded bedding from coarseness to fineness. It contains mammalian and plant fossils. Its thickness is about 40 m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
In the type section, the Liuhe Fm unconformably contacts with the underlying Cretaceous Chishan Fm.
Upper contact
In the type section, the Liuhe Fm is disconformably overlain by the JinshanBasalt Fm.

Fossils
Mammals: Hyotherium cf. H. palaeochoerus, ?Tetralophodon sp., “Diceratheium” sp.. (Bi et al., 1977). Plants: Podogonium oehningense, Morus asymmetrica, Ulmus protoparvifolia, Carpinus sp., Cocculus rotundifolius. (Li et al., 1987)

Depositional setting
It is interpreted as a river-lake environment.
